Trail reinforcement: Kvalvika to Ryten

This summer, we will continue work on strengthening the path from Kvalvika up towards Ryten. During the construction period, traffic restrictions apply, for the safety of both visitors and contractors. There will be marked diversions around the construction site and there will be people on the trail to guide you.
The path will be built in gravel and stone. The masses to be used in the work will be transported in by helicopter. On these days, we close both the path to Ryten and the path to Kvalvika, for reasons of safety during transport.

Friday 11 September 2026 09.00 – 17.00
The trail from Innersand to Kvalvika (section B) will be closed on Friday 11 September due to helicopter transport of stone for the trail construction work. Stone will be lifted from the mountainside at Kvalvika up to the trail leading towards Ryten.
You can hike to Ryten from the trailhead at Innersand (section A). To reach Kvalvika, you must go from Torsfjorden via Skoren (section C). During the closure it will not be possible to walk from Kvalvika up to Ryten, or from Ryten down to Kvalvika.
There will be barriers and staff on site to guide you.
Background
Kvalvika and Ryten are among the most visited destinations in Lofoten, with traffic figures of up to 90,000 visitors. The high traffic has resulted in visible wear and erosion on the path, which affects the vegetation and landscape. The area also has a limited area for nesting mountain birds, and heavy traffic can disturb nesting.
